The Department of Entomology was established in 2014 and since then striving to achieve excellence with intellect and future foresight.
Aims of Department: The aims of department include: • Develop high caliber human resources in the discipline of Entomology • Undertake research to protect our food and fiber from insect pests with special reference to ecology of Southern Punjab • Undertake research to augment the services and value of beneficial insects • Community awareness and education programs through farmer trainings, short courses and workshops. The faculty members of Department of Entomology are highly qualified and take pride in their teaching responsibilities. Majority of the faculty members are PhDs having foreign teaching/research experience. The department strengths are in teaching and research and their devotion for research is apparent from the publication of over 250 research articles, review articles and book chapters in well reputed national and international journals. Being situated in the core area of cotton and mango, the department is striving to play an active role in solving the insect pest problems of these two major crops in particular and other in general. The department is also well equipped with diverse research groups including the following: Integrated pest management, Insecticide resistance, potential of entomopathogens as biological control agent, stored product pest management and biodiversity and effectiveness of native pollinators towards yield enhancement of various crops. The department has developed good ties with local research institutes like CCRI, CRS, MRI, AMRI, agri-extension department, Pesticide quality control laboratory and pesticide industries etc. Students of Entomology have got good opportunities to carry out practical /research work with the collaboration of these organizations. Currently, the department is offering B.Sc. (Hons.), M.Sc. (Hons.) and PhD degree program in Entomology. The Department has also an access to HEC digital library besides having an enormous collection of books, reference materials and encyclopedias. The students of the Department are taught by using variety of teaching ways including the traditional lectures, interactive tutorials and practical workshops involving digital media. The faculty members of department have submitted research projects to various funding agencies including USAID, Higher Education Commission, Pakistan Science Foundation, Pakistan Agricultural Research Board etc.
The Department of Entomology strives to strengthen and implement effective teaching, research and advisory services based on the knowledge and expertise, ultimately benefiting farming community of the region.
